Hello, my name is Matthew P. Hitt. I am an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Colorado State University. You can view my CV here. Thank you for visiting.
I study judgment and decision making in American political institutions. I am interested in how institutional and external factors influence the choices political actors make, especially at the collective level, in Congress, the judiciary, and the bureaucracy. My methodological research focuses on improving statistical inferences in time series analysis. I have co-authored a book on time series analysis, published by Cambridge University Press.
My research, funded by the National Science Foundation, has also appeared or is forthcoming in the American Journal of Political Science, American Political Science Review, International Journal of Public Opinion Research, Law & Society Review, Public Opinion Quarterly, Presidential Studies Quarterly, and Studies in American Political Development. My doctoral dissertation was awarded the 2015 Edward S. Corwin Prize for best dissertation in public law by the American Political Science Association.
